New Episode of GET WISDOM

I've uploaded the new episode of GET WISDOM; this episode covers 1 Corinthians 7.
For those of you who have not listened to GET WISDOM, it is a radio program and podcast (with free downloadable study guides) featuring Bible study for Orthodox Christian teens. The program is produced through a partnership between the Department of Youth Ministry and the Orthodox Christian Network.

Have a Blessed Feast of the Nativity

I want to wish everyone a blessed celebration of the Feast of the Nativity. I will not be writing the next two days as my family and I prepare for, and celebrate, the birth of Christ. I'll be back on Wednesday to create the next episode of GET WISDOM.
Entirely unrelated to this, but nonetheless quite interesting, I just read (via a post by Susan Polger) an article about using chess to teach life lessons to daughters. As a parent who also loves chess, I found the central theme (which - as the author notes - can be found in a very large number of other articles and books) to be enjoyable.

DLO OpenFM

If you're like me, you listen to MP3s - and, in my case, particularly podcasts like those from Ancient Faith Radio and the Orthodox Christian Network - while driving. Using an MP3 player in an automobile - at least, for all but the few new autos with built in MP3 player-enabled stereos - requires using an FM transmitter to send the audio from your MP3 player to your stereo.
The problem, as those of you who use FM transmitters already know, is that you need to find an open FM frequency on which to "broadcast" the signal from your MP3 player. Via O'Reilly Mac DevCenter, I've learned about DLO's OpenFM, which enables you to search for open FM frequencies by ZIP code or city & state. The results come up with "best bet" and "good" signals to try.
While listening to Orthodox podcasts, don't forget to listen to GET WISDOM!

This Blog is One Year Old

The Orthodox Christian Bible Studies blog had its first anniversary yesterday. The first two posts were simply references to the old blog, but the third post was the beginning of my debate over whether to create a podcast for Orthodox youth. If you're new to this blog, I finally decided "yes," and in October began producing GET WISDOM - The Orthodox Bible Study Program for Teens.

OCN to Stream Web TV Christmas Special

On Sunday, December 9th, from 4-6 PM (EST), the Orthodox Christian Network will stream a live, interactive Web TV Christmas special: "Affirming our Faith. Proclaiming Orthodoxy to the World." The OCN describes the event:
Simply visit www.myocn.net on Dec. 9 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST to join listeners, supporters and special guests from around the world for an illuminating discussion of the Orthodox celebration of the Nativity and its meaning today. You'll be able to call in to make your own comments, meet the staff of OCN, hear from well-known Orthodox leaders and theologians, see the studios that produce Come Receive the Light, listen to Orthodox Christmas music, and discuss the exciting ways that OCN plans to expand its ability to proclaim the powerful relevance of our Lord's Incarnation in the coming year.
They have also announced that a supporter will match any donations made during their "At Year's End, You Can Make a Difference" campaign.

Icon New Media Network

A relatively new podcast network, Icon New Media Network, is offering podcasts for what appears to be an audience of largely 20-30 year olds. The primary voices are Jacob Lee and Steven McMeans, along with clergy and members of St. John the Theologian Orthodox Church in San Juan Capistrano, CA, and St. Barnabas Orthodox Church in Costa Mesa, CA.
