More Registrants Needed for the 1 Corinthians Study

There has been a surprisingly low number of people registered for the free email program for Life Together: An Interactive Study of 1 Corinthians. In case you haven't already read the post to which I linked, individuals and youth groups can register - for absolutely no charge - to receive each week (for sixteen weeks) a personalized email with that week's study guide for 1 Corinthians, as well as an overview of the chapter and other information.
At this point, unless registrations increase significantly, I would spend a substantially greater number of hours creating and running the free email program than the number of registrants for the program. This, of course, would not be an acceptable use of time and resources. Therefore, I will need quite a few registrations in the next week to justify operating the free personalized email program.
Remember, the Life Together Bible study launches November 1st.

I've posted on the site for GET WISDOM the first in a series of articles on how I create the program. In the first article I discuss how and why I chose my microphone, and the unique challenges I experience when using this mic.
I hope that my learning experiences - both positive and negative - will be useful to other Orthodox Christians who are considering creating a radio program and podcast (as even a cursory reading of this blog will demonstrate, I strongly encourage you to create such programming).

Listen to GET WISDOM on The ARK

In addition to listening to my Bible study audio program, GET WISDOM, by subscribing to the podcast, you can also listen to it on The ARK, the Orthodox Christian Network's contemporary Orthodox Christian music station.
GET WISDOM will stream on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM (EST).

Listening to The ARK and The RUDDER on OS X and Linux

As I've written before, listening to the Orthodox Christian Network's Internet radio stations can be difficult for users of OS X and Linux, because the player pages for those stations use Direct X to embed the Windows Media Player into a webpage. Since OS X and Linux do not use Direct X, the player cannot embed and play in those systems (plus, Microsoft stopped development of the Windows Media Player at version 9 for OSX, and it doesn't exist at all for Linux).
OS X users can use Flip4Mac to substitute QuickTime for Windows Media Player, although I've never been satisfied with the performance of this workaround.
I've therefore looked at the code for the player pages for The ARK and The RUDDER, and have found the URLs for the direct Windows media streams for these stations (I do this every few months when I notice that the stations have updated their streams, and thus the old URLs I've posted before no longer work). Simply paste the URL of your choice into your WMA-capable media player, and you'll be able to listen to the station on OS X or Linux:

Register for Personal Emails for "Life Together"

Life Together: An Interactive Study of 1 Corinthians, which launches November 1st, will be the 2007-2008 online multimedia Bible study of the Department of Youth Ministry - Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (it is also a featured ministry of our partner, the Orthodox Christian Network). The study will be used by Teen SOYO groups throughout the United States and Canada to prepare for the 2008 Bible Bowl; it will also be used by youth groups in other Orthodox jurisdictions.
Life Together will feature the biblical text of 1 Corinthians (from the New King James Version), a modern commentary for each chapter, and a commentary by St. John Chrysostom; articles about persons and places that appear in the text; articles about Orthodox Christianity and applying the biblical text to the reader's life; downloadable study sheets for group study; and quizzes.
I wrote an article earlier featuring screenshots of the Life Together user interface; click here to read that article and get a preview of the "look and feel" of the application.
Like all our Orthodox Christian Bible Studies, Life Together will be completely free to access and use.
Beginning on Life Together's launch on November 1st, I will also send personalized emails to Orthodox teens (one email per week for the sixteen weeks of the study) featuring an overview of the content from that chapter, with an attached group study guide and an encouragement to engage in group study with the teen's local Orthodox youth group. Like the Bible study application itself, this personalized email is also completely free.

First Episode of GET WISDOM Now Available
